Meet your guide at St. Adalbert's Church on the Main Market Square at 10am.
You'll walk through Krakow's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Kazimierz, the former Jewish district, also recognized by UNESCO. Today an artistic hub bubbling over with designer cafés, Kazimierz witnessed some of the worst episodes of the Holocaust and was the epicenter of Polish Jewish culture from its founding in the fourteenth century.
Soak up the atmosphere and learn about Kazimierz' long history as you see sites including the New Jewish Cemetery, where many of Krakow's leading Jewish citizens were buried in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the stunning Isaac Synagogue, and the Old Synagogue. Built during the fifteenth century, this is probably the oldest remaining example of Jewish architecture in Poland, and hosts exhibitions devoted to Polish Judaism.
Relax over a coffee for 30 minutes or so (own expense), and talk about Poland's history and social situation with your guide. You'll learn stories and tales from folklore, before you walk to the district of Podgorze.
Here you'll see Ghetto Heroes Square, the site of the old Jewish ghetto, and walk to Oskar Schindler's Factory, the site where the events in Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning Schindler's List took place. Your tour will finish here at 1pm: you're free to purchase tickets to explore the site and its stunning multimedia museum, or return to your hotel under your own steam.
